Every project starts with a mood board! This one captures Detroit’s golden eras, from the Boblo Boat and Motown to Black Bottom’s jazz clubs and the flashy 80s dope boy parties of BMF. The colors and materials are pulled straight from the city’s culture: green for the Boblo Boat and alligator skin, a staple in Detroit fashion; cork for popping bottles and the club floors of Black Bottom and Paradise Valley.
Using Photoshop, I designed my own shoe within our team’s two-pack day/night concept, bringing my own creative twist to the vision.
With my screen printing and design background, I took the lead on our team’s T-shirt design, paying homage to vintage club flyers and Detroit’s nightlife. We chose a distressed Comfort Colors tee to mimic the texture of aged paper, kept the bold typography true to the era, and added modern touches like the New Balance 550 branding elements, and Detroit staples like Cartier glasses.
